Bio Fuel Energy Changing Renewable Electricity Markets

Biofuel via Algae a Remarkable Discovery

Most people are waiting for the day when bio fuel energy makes a difference in the world to the degree that it hits the mass population. In some ways bio fuel energy is having a very good positive impact on a large energy consumer population. In Texas there is a large demand for green clean renewable energy. Electricity service customers want a green product that is carbon neutral and will not pollute the environment. What most Texas electric service companies are doing is buying green renewable energy credits in another state that has a bio fuel that can be turned into energy. These virtual clean energy credits are then used to sell clean electricity service to Texas energy consumers. The clean energy is not coming from a bio fuel waste in Texas but it is coming from somewhere and Texas is paying to keep the environment clean and carbon free.

Renewable Energy Credits and Alternative Clean Energy

The next step is to do away with states buying renewable energy credits to clean up the environment in a state that isn’t even their own. By using bio energy fuel resources in the local state a state like Texas can clean up the environment in their own territory. Unfortunately there are not enough companies with bio fuel resources available for Texas to be able to by renewable energy credits in their state territory. Recent news headlines have shown an increasing awareness of bio fuel resources such as algae. Cnet news said last year that the race to biofuel algae is only 1 year away. We are now a year away and a company by the name of Valcent Products has a bioreactor system that can be deployed on non-arable land, requires very little water due to its closed circuit process, does not incur significant labor costs and does not employ fossil fuel burning equipment, unlike traditional food/biofuel crops, like soy and palm oil.

Algae Biofuel Can Become a More Affordable Energy Solution

A bioreactor plant in El Paso gives an example of what this technology looks like. Shown below is the principal scientist and Valcent president and CEO Glenn Kertz with algae-filled bioreactors at the research and development facility in El Paso, Texas.

By using algae as a fuel source you are creating an environmentally friendly biodiesel that has many uses. Many are saying that algae is fast becoming the new oil and will be used from powering and lubricating cars, tractors, and trucks as well as power generating plants. By using algae to create electricity you could cut out a lot of the carbon and pollution problems associated with coal fired ower generation facilities. We will always need some coal power as it is very cheap but being able to control the amount of carbon and pollution coming from our power plants allows for a cleaner environment and less government control. Texas has a large reliance on natural gas and coal fired power. New York uses a large diverse amount of power generation facilities such as hydro, nuclear, and natural gas. By adding algae biofuel to the mix we could do a lot to make energy more affordable to consumers.
